Dear Mapmakers,The united states are arranged in a lovely layout, certainly. But could you please consider a small revision? You see, we now live in Omaha. We LOVE it here. But our dear dear friends live in Birmingham, Alabama, and they don't seem to want to leave there. Seems they have "meaningful" jobs and a vibrant community there. Harumph.
Back before any children entered the picture and we adults were all carefree, we used to be able to get together about once a week to eat, drink, and be merry. Now that we really need to be with each other more, we're 877 miles apart. That just doesn't work for us anymore, especially since Will and Laura are Lucy's godparents and Walter is, as Lucy says, her godbaby. We fell for him recently in all his 10 week old glory and we need to see him grow up.
At first, we considered asking that several states be removed from the map, but it seemed cruel to the citizens of Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee to suggest that their homes just be pinched off. Here's a more modest proposal: an even trade, Missouri for Alabama.
What's the difference, really? Both are below the Mason-Dixon line. Both are hot and humid. We'd lose St. Louis and Kansas City, sure. But we'd gain better football, folk art, and BBQ. I don't guess we could take the gulf along, so our family in Mobile would have to learn to enjoy rivers. Gaining that would be a big incentive for Missouri. But what of our friends in Missouri? Hmmm. . . perhaps they could learn to love a newly relocated sweet home Alabama?

Baby Walter and his parents look great. It's good to see the other set of godparents! We're delighted for you, Will & Laura. And you both really do look happy. By the way, if you build a blog, we will come.
Shuler Morgans, I need a lucy-fix and hope we can rearrange the map sometime soon as to find us all in the same place.

I am so happy that you had a good visit with Will, Laura and Walter. I would like to suggest, however, that we exchange Alabama with Iowa instead of Missouri. Des Moines is only 4 hours away.
