We took a 4 year old on a 9 day roadtrip. Take a minute to process that... Yeah, it was a little tense a few times. But honestly, 90% of the trip was just fantastic and Lucy did great. The other 10%? Well, 90% is still an A, right? Let's not dwell on that missing 10%. We started out driving west and wandered off the interstate through the simply beautiful Nebraska Sand Hills. We spent the first night in Chadron, Nebraska, passing by Carhenge on the way. That's quite a place.
On the second morning, we spent a little time in the northwest corner of the state at historical Fort Robinson, where we took a stagecoach ride and visited the natural history museum, where Lucy was so taken by the fossils of the woolly mammoth that she continues to insist that she wants to be a woolly mammoth for halloween. Ask her to tell you the story about the woolly mammoths, it's quite dramatic.
At the end of this long day, we found Sheridan, Wyoming, where Sheri's Aunt Julie and family live. We could not have had a more lovely time there.
Lucy adores her older cousins, Andy and Katie, and I think the feeling is mutual. We hung out at the park, on the patio, and in lovely downtown Sheridan. It was the ultimate in family love.
Lucy LOVED having Katie do her hair each morning, and took a particular liking to the straightener. Sheri found this amusing, as when we're at home she won't sit still for 30 seconds of BRUSHING.
Lucy especially enjoyed her 4 legged cousins, Roxy and Pal. Here she is with Pal, enjoying time with dogs who aren't old and cranky all the time.
Even though we knew we were on our way to some more fun adventures, we were all sad to leave Sheridan. Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3.
