NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy's first encounter with Santa this year wasn't so hot. We went to the Children's Hospital Rehab Center party this evening, which was great. All the kids were in line to see Santa and get a present, and Lucy was down with the idea. She saw him from afar, said "ho ho ho" as we waited in line, and watched other kids sit on his lap and live to tell about it. She generally just seemed okay with the whole thing. Then it was our turn. When Nathan started to place her on Santa's lap, she freaked. This, the girl who only utters a small little "owie" or "mama" when having blood drawn, screamed, "NO!!!!!!" at the top of her lungs and burst into screaming tears. Nathan and Sheri both agreed that it was the loudest and most forceful objection they've ever heard come out of the girl--louder than with the insertion of the PICC line, louder than the insertion of a catheter, loudest EVER. Santa seemed a little sad about the whole thing, but she still got a toy out of the deal. We may try once more this season, or we may just call 2007 a bust for a Santa pic. After all she's been through, maybe she doesn't need the additional trauma.

My memory is that Lucy wasn't crazy about last year's Santa either, or that she at least seemed somewhat suspicious of him. Perhaps her response is due to her advanced intellectual and spiritual nature: she knows right off the bat that these guys are just stand-ins for the real Santa.

Love from the godmamas!

She definitely wasn't impressed last year either.

Sad that Lucy doesn't like Santa but I think she will learn in years to come, like her mother did, that you go with the flow if that will get you more presents.

I guess I should take the Santa costume back before she gets here?

I don't blame Lucy one bit - that dude does look a bit scary! She could probably smell the Peppermint Schnapps on his breath as well...
