Our vacation started with 11 hours of planes, flight delays, layovers, and a long wait while dad got the rental car and installed the car seat. At 10 hours and 45 minutes, after an entire day of being a model traveler, Lucy finally had her meltdown in the car when we were just 10 minutes away from the beach house. Who could blame her!?!?! After the hassles of getting to the beach, we felt like during our first trip there she was saying, "let me get this straight. We traveled 11 long hours, I have to sleep in a pack and play, you make me put this weird outfit on and rub white goo all over me...for this?" It was too bright out, she was skeptical of the sand and did NOT like water getting on her feet. She would sit almost motionless on the towel and try not to touch any sand.

With the help of a beach umbrella for shade and some coaxing (okay, pushing) from her parents and godparents, she came around.
Our beach house was right across the street from the public beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We'd slather the girl with 50 spf and go out in the morning and late afternoon/evening.

Lucy finally enjoyed splashing in the water (as long as her back was to the incoming waves), and exploring the sand with her hands, feet, and mouth. Yum.
It was wonderful to just relax with Will and Laura, take naps, enjoy the scenic surroundings, the good company, and Will's gourmet cooking. We spent the 4 days feeling very grateful for rest and good friends. Thanks for the beach house loan, Pat and Annabel! I had a hard time choosing pictures, so decided to add more than usual and just keep them small. If you want to see one larger, click on it.

these photos are adorable! i'm jealous of all Lucy's cute swimsuits. If she comes to visit, she can hang in the Zermatt pool that has no sand. Hint Hint. Plus, I can do free, and probably much needed, spa treatments on you and Nathan. After such a long trip, you guys probably could use some R and R.
Love you- Angel
