A few recent developments...
Lucy is learning new skills all the time. This first pic below is from a recent baby exercise session ("feel the burn!"). Besides holding her head up like a champ, she's recently learned to grab toys, support her weight on her legs, kick over a stack of blocks on command, and roll from her back to her sides. It seems that every day there's a little something new that makes us realize our girl is growing. Oh, and here's a particularly funny one. She has figured out how to suck on her fingers when she wants to and the last few days she has awakened us with a loud gagging noise because she's sticking her finger too far down her throat. She's working on that delicate balance between enjoying the finger sucking and gagging. Hopefully she will master this by the time she enters the teen years or we may have a problem on our hands.
On the down side, another first is that Lucy has a cold. It doesn't seem to be bothering her TOO much and she's still plenty smiley and fun to be around. Luckily, she had an extra cuddler here this weekend to help soothe her. Kim is Sheri's best friend from college who currently lives in Seattle. She's the mom of a kindergartener who knew that our ailing girl mostly just needed a little extra TLC and Lucy took quite a liking to her. Who would have thought that when we met as sorority pledges with large late 80s bangs that we'd become good enough friends to rock each others' babies 19 years later? I only hope that in her life Lucy will be lucky enough to make at least one lifelong friend as good as Kim who she can grow and change with.
Speaking of friends, here's Lucy with her first buddy. Ruby is the 20 month old daughter of Chris and Matt, who are great friends of ours in Omaha. Ruby calls Lucy something that sounds like "baby juicy" and likes to help give Lucy her pacifier or show her toys. Whenever Lucy is not crying, Ruby shouts out, "happy!" and when Lucy's eating, Ruby points and says, "nursing"! The age difference seems MASSIVE now, but we know that soon the girls will be able to play together and when she's 20, Lucy will want Ruby to buy the beer.
Here's Chris demonstrating for the camera what Lucy's life is like on Mondays and Wednesdays. We look forward to lots of takeout dinners, board games, and little girl stuff with their family. Lifelong friends are wonderful, but we sure are grateful for newer friends, as well!
This coming weekend will bring more new and exciting stuff, including a little United Methodist head sprinklin' for the girl, as well as a visit from her Great Grandma Shirley from Wyoming and Great Aunt Mari and Great Uncle Jim from Texas (and a whole lot of other people besides--stay tuned)!
