10-4 Good Buddies

It's quite a big week around here. In addition to just celebrating father's day, Sheri and Nathan celebrate their 10th (TENTH!) anniversary on Thursday, and Lucy turns 4 (FOUR!!!???) on Monday. So it's 10-4 week.

Nathan, I'm ever so grateful that we get to stumble through this life together, figuring things out as we go along. We're good parents 80% of the time, great parents 15% of time, and we don't need to worry about the other 5%. Yeah, we overthink things and maybe take too long to make decisions. We're not always so good with money and we spend far too much time thinking about our next trip, our next house, our next car, etc. But isn't life together so much fun? There's no one I want to talk to more at the end of the day, and there's definitely no one I'd rather parent this spunky, clever, funny, strong-willed 4 year old with than you. Thanks for believing that parenting should be shared equally, and thanks for loving both of your girls so freely. We are lucky to have you, me for 10 years and Lucy for 4. Thanks for being the best partner and the best dad we could ask for. Happy Anniversary, sweetie!

The other night, we had to go over to church to water our community vegetable garden. It was a gorgeous night, and we were all happy and having fun digging up weeds and earthworms, playing in the water, and running around on the lawn. It was one of those lovely and perfect evenings when I thought to myself, "I wish I had a camera." And then I remembered, I DID have a camera. I ran to the car and got it and just started snapping pics. It wasn't the most ideal time to take pics by conventional standards, Lucy was wearing a silly crown and multiple hair accessories that she put in her messy hair herself and had dirt on her face and hands from digging earthworms. In other words, it PERFECTLY captures who she is right now, at this transition between being a toddler and being a little girl (or a BIG GIRL, as she says). The result makes me want a faster camera and some photography lessons, but even without those things, I still love all these pics of my two sweeties. I want to bottle up these moments, as I know by know how fleeting and precious each stage is.

My sweet Lucy, you bless us beyond measure every.single.day. I hope your 4th birthday celebrations will be everything you have imagined they would be, since you've been talking about your "4 birthday" for about 11 months now. I pray that as you grow, you will remain your own spunky, assertive, smart, quirky self. Daddy and I love you more than all the stars in the sky.
