I (Sheri) have not posted about this yet because I keep hoping to capture a video of Lucy's latest obsession. No good ones yet, so you'll have to use your imagination with the photos. Nathan and I went to see Wicked about a month ago, and it was awesome. I loved the music and wanted to listen to the soundtrack in the car, so I told her that it was kids music. This strategy worked better than I ever could have hoped, then came back to bite me because Lucy now ONLY wants to listen to "the Witches music." She knows the words to most of the songs and has asked enough questions about what's going on that she pretty much knows the whole (age appropriate version) story.
This has escalated to watching scenes on youtube, and now to insisting that I act them out with her. In the first pic, Lucy is Elphaba (who she calls "the green witch") singing "Defying Gravity" while learning to fly (which is why she's holding the broom and standing on the couch). In the second pic, Elphaba and Glinda have their big duet (Glinda didn't really want to be on camera this morning).
Really nothing about her outfit is like Elphaba's, but she's pretty good at improvising. Instead of green skin, she has a green tshirt. Instead of a black pointy witch hat, she has a blue velvet old lady church hat. Instead of a black witch dress, she wears the darkest dress up skirt she has. Sometimes she makes me be Elphaba to her Glinda ("the blonde witch"), but that's usually for songs where Glinda has a bigger part. When she's Glinda, Lucy wears a white old lady church hat and a pink dress up skirt. Nathan has been deemed "the wizard," though he never has to act anything out. He does get recruited to watch us, though, and was even late to work this morning so he could catch the show. : )
This morning, for the first time, Lucy FINALLY agreed to listen to something else in the car. I was excited, because it's been a month. Any music, no matter how great, is tiresome after a month. Unfortunately, when I picked her up this afternoon she again requested "the witches music." It may soon get broken, but until then, "if you care to find us, LOOK to the WESTERN SKY!"
At the Godmamas house in early June, we were treated to a visit by Lucy, who was still fighting a pretty nasty cough. We still got to see a performance or two from Wicked. See the videos below:
First we started with an umbrella for a broom...
Then the ending one time without the music...
And again WITH music and an actual small broom!
