Losing Nemo and other weekend fun

This is how the story ended. But don't worry, Lucy didn't. In fact, as Grandpa ran at top speed through the park to try to catch the kite on the loose before it got stuck in the tree, Lucy gave up chasing after it and turned to Grandma and said, "I want to go to the playground." Lucy's been very focused on kites lately. In fact, she knew that there were going to be kites at the Easter service and has been talking about it for weeks. She told her PT, she told her teachers, and she even told the cashier at HyVee, "Guess what? There's going to be kites at church on Easter Sunday." People would look at her parent in confusion, thinking, "surely she doesn't mean KITES in church!?" She did, and they were splendid. But back to our kite flying story. Mama, Grandma, Grandpa, and Lucy went to the park Saturday night to fly her Nemo kite while Daddy ran an errand to Target. All was great at first.

We had some great kite flying time, and Lucy insisted that she hold the string all by herself. That worked out great for awhile, and she was really proud of the great job she was doing ALL.BY.HER.SELF!

But, alas, a sudden gust of wind was no match for little Lucy and she let go of the kite. Unfortunately, Mama was too wrapped up in the action to get a video of Grandma yelling, "Alan, Alan! Grab it! ALAN!!" As we all took off running after the kite, with Grandpa in the lead. The good news is that Grandpa got a lot of good exercise and the kite finally did come to a stop. The bad news is that it was high up in a tree. He tugged a little, but his efforts were in vain. By the time the string broke and Grandpa and Mama gave up, Lucy was well into swinging fun with Grandma.

Daddy happened to call while at Target and was told to bring a new kite, but by the time he got there Lucy had so completely moved on that we just stashed it in the trunk for next time. Speaking of Daddy, btw, here's a shot of he and his little sweetie in front of the butterfly house at the zoo on Friday. Thanks to our Catholic employer, we had Good Friday off and spent the beautiful morning at the zoo. Add to that going to a birthday party on Saturday morning and getting to plant pansies on Saturday afternoon, it was a wonderful spring weekend!
