Happy Holidays from Omaha!

We're ready. The last of the packages were mailed last weekend, Sheri turned in her grades on the 22nd, Grandma Sue and Grandpa Al arrived on the 23rd (of course, the house was clean about 10 minutes before they pulled into the driveway), and we'll get the last of our Christmas cards in the mail on the 24th. Now it's time to just cook and eat and enjoy each others' company. We're all looking forward to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day festivities. We're helping to host a Christmas Eve party for the dear friends in Nathan and Sheri's Sunday School class before the service, and then will all enjoy watching Lucy sing her heart out with the choir. Whatever you are doing, we hope it will be festive and fun.

And now, some favorite photos of memories from 2010:

As you can see, our girl is growing up. Lucy turned 4 at the end of June, and is becoming smarter and funnier and more delightful by the day. Most days, anyway. Some days we still have to repeat the mantra, "being strong willed will serve her well in life, being strong willed will serve her well in life, being strong willed..." When it's not directed at us, we love her fiery spirit and her independence. We look at each other in amazement when she asks theological questions like "are there dinosaurs in the same heaven as people?" or maybe shows her future political leanings with, "maybe bad guys wouldn't be bad guys if people were kind to them." She's exploring activities like ballet/tap (not as fun as she imagined) and soccer (which she says she wants to play again in the spring). It's wonderful to see her little mind and heart work and to see the world through her eyes. She's getting a really great foundation for education at her Montessori preschool and we're now (yikes!) in the process of considering kindergarten options.

Nathan and Sheri are both still enjoying working at Creighton and Sheri is excited to begin her first sabbatical in January. She'll be working on some writing projects focused on the "princess culture" that we're knee deep in at our house with a 4.5 year old girl. Nothing like studying what you live! We love our church and Omaha, though we're really hoping that the mild winter we've had so far will continue.

We were fortunate to travel for work or play to Asheville, Minnesota, Mobile, Kansas, Salt Lake City, Wyoming, Yellowstone, Idaho, and San Francisco AND to enjoy lots of visitors from family and friends. We were sad to have to say goodbye to Grandma Shirley in April. It was both wonderful and terrible to unwrap all the handmade Christmas things she had given us over the years. We really miss Sheri's sweet grandma.

We hope 2011 brings lots of people we love our way. Happy New Year!
